Our standard paper cups (eg ripplecups) are recyclable. Sadly there are not very many locations in the UK where this can happen because special methods are required to separate the PE lining from the paper outer. Companies like Simply Cups have perfected the process but the main challenge is how to organise the collection and then the subsequent delivery to these specialist plants.

Other companies can offer a ‘blended’ waste solution where paper cups can be mixed with other paper type waste to make raw material for certain types of packaging.

Answers to the ‘paper cup mountain’ are there and local councils should be taking the lead to establish the necessary infrastructure for disposal.
